President Buhari rocks military uniform to attend Army Parade

President Buhari attended the Nigerian Army Trooping and Presentation of Colours parade 2023 this morning April 27, dressed in a ceremonial military uniform. President Buhari who is a retired Army general, arrived at Eagle Square, venue of the parade, at about 10:18am in accompany of his Chief of Staff, Prof Ibrahim Gambari. Ooni Hosts, Renames Americans With Ile-Ife Root

The Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, on Tuesday, played host to some Americans who traced their roots to the Kingdom of Ile-Ife. The Americans were led to the Ooni by the Asoju Asa of Ile Oodua, Ambassador Dotun Taylor. The Ooni stressed the excitement that comes with identifying with the root of one’s origin. No Alaafin-elect has emerged — Palace source

Following the news making the rounds that a new Alaafin of Oyo has emerged, a source within the palace, who is also one of the kingmakers, has dispelled, what he described as a widely spread rumour by one of the contestants to the throne, Prince Lukman Adelodu Gbadegesin, parading himself as the Alaafin-elect. The source, who spoke with Vanguard on the condition of anonymity, said the process for the selection of a new Alaafin is still ongoing and the report of the consensus candidate has not been presented to the governor for final ratification. He disclosed that Prince Gbadegesin has been over-ambitious using the media to achieve his personal ambition. The Federal Government has commenced the payment of the 40 per cent pay rise arrears for civil servants, Saturday PUNCH has reliably learnt. Our correspondent who spoke to some federal civil servants on Saturday learnt that workers started receiving bank alerts of the arrears on Saturday, April 22, 2023. A high-ranking civil servant who spoke to our correspondent anonymously in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, noted that the arrears came in alongside the April 2023 salary. “I received my own arrears today. Some of our other colleagues have also confirmed receipt of their arrears. Binani’s Acceptance Speech Confirms She’s Party To Illegal Declaration – Falana

  The management of the institution also banned the use of tinted vehicles by staff members and students, adding that learner permits must be placed on the vehicles of beginner drivers. A 45-year-old woman, Karima Nuhu, has filed a lawsuit against her ex-husband, Musa Falalu, for allegedly failing to take her to Saudi Arabia.

The lawsuit was filed before a Shari’a Court sitting in Rigasa, Kaduna. The plaintiff who lives at Rigasa area of Kaduna, told the court that she had been married to Falalu for four years, during which he provided her with food for only two months.   She said;    “He told me that he lost his job as a driver but had secured another one in Saudi Arabia, urging me to be patient while promising to take me along. “So far, I have been feeding myself. I even borrowed money for him so that he would be able to pay for the trip, but after getting what he wanted, he divorced me.”   She told the court that she had no witnesses except God who will judge them on the last day.  The defendant, however, denied the allegations as he revealed that he had divorced the complainant.   The judge, Malam Anass Khalifa, who confirmed the divorce between the couple, said the court would only listen to the complainant’s claims if she had witnessed them.

This was disclosed by Head of Tobacco Control Unit, Noncommunicable Disease Division, Federal Ministry of Health, Dr Mangai Malau, on Tuesday, April 18, at the National Tobacco Control Budget Advocates Meeting in Abuja.   Malau who presented a paper titled “Overview of Tobacco Control Funding/Budgeting in Nigeria: Why Tobacco Control Budgeting and Funding?, said the tax increase is part of the federal government's effort to control smoking.    Asides stating that funding for tobacco control must come majorly from taxation, he added that there is also a need for relevant stakeholders to apply tax measures rightly if they are to address the issues of tobacco control in the country.   Malau said;   “In effectively controlling tobacco and tobacco products in Nigeria, funding is a critical component. The Lagos State Government will today, Wednesday, arraign 18-year-old Uzuokwu Solomon for allegedly making hoax calls for the emergency responder.

In a statement released, the Deputy Director, Public Affairs of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Ololade Agboola, said Solomon allegedly called the emergency line of the Fire Service on Friday, April 14, 2023, at 5:35 pm from Harmony Estate in the Ajah area of the state and reported a fire emergency within the estate leading to the activation of emergency processes and eventual dispatch of the fire trucks from Lekki Phase II Fire service station.   “On arrival, it was discovered that there was no fire incident in the estate. Because of the frequency of such calls in the past, the Estate security helped in the investigation which led to the arrest of the notorious false caller. Consequently, the culprit who had been arrested is scheduled to be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction at Ogba Magistrate on the 19th of April, 2023 by 9.00am. Tricycle Ambulance Initiative To Serve Rural Areas -Ogun Govt

The Ogun State Government has said that the introduction of tricycle ambulances in the state is to tackle the threat of maternal and infant mortality in rural areas. This was disclosed in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Kunle Somorin, on Sunday. According to the statement, the tricycle ambulances were officially introduced in February 2022 after the state government purchased 50 tricycles, the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals donated 30 more, and 10 more tricycles—for a total of 90—were donated by private donors. He also stated that the government established an Emergency Medical Treatment Committee to ensure the quickest possible collaborative response to trauma and medical emergencies. Justice Maureen Esowe also reinstated the operations of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, in the state. RTEAN had filed a lawsuit against the state government and other defendants for suspending its operations, taking over garages and appointing a caretaker body, known as the Parks and Garages Administrators. The union through their counsel, Elisha Kurah, SAN, had argued that a state cannot interfere in the affairs of a trade union registered under the Trade Unions Act of 2004, adding that the state cannot dissolve the union, contending that such matters were handled by Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment. The state government however argued that they did not violate the law nor dissolve the national body’s operations in the state, but had sought to maintain law and order by creating the ad-hoc committee when violence ensued between the unions. Labour Party NEC suspends acting chairman, Apapa, five others

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Labour Party has suspended the Acting National Chairman, Lamidi Apapa and five others for anti-party activities. Those suspended include Alh. Saleh Lawal – Deputy National Secretary; Rawland Daramola- National Financial Secretary; Prince Reuben Favour – National Vice – Chairman, South-South; Secretary; Samuel Akingbade, National Legal Adviser and Mohammed Akali, National Vice – Chairman, North-East. No reason was given for their suspension. The NEC also reaffirmed and upheld the decision of the Akure convention which expelled the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Comrade Arabambi Abayomi. Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state has said that people in his state did not vote for the presidential candidate of the Labour party, Peter Obi, but rather voted for his party, in protest against the APC and PDP during the February 25, 2023 presidential election.

Umahi who is a chieftain of the APC and was rooting for its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, disclosed this during an interview on Channels TV. The suspect was arrested following a report lodged at the Ago Iwoye divisional headquarters by the 62-year-old landlady of the house, Adejoke Salau, who reported that she heard a noise from one of the apartments in her compound.   When she came out, she discovered that the building was on fire while her tenants were trapped in there.   Speaking to the Nigerian Tribune, the suspect said that Busayo deprived him of an opportunity of being a father again as he was estranged from his only child.  “I had a son with a lady in 2003, but she left me 18 years ago when we could not be in agreement.
