Ex-Nigeria Boxer, Okorodudu Is Dead, Hospital Seizes Corpse

An ex-boxer from Nigeria, Jeremiah ‘Jerry’ Okorodudu passed away at a private hospital in Lawandon, Lagos, on Wednesday night. Okorodudu had been struggling with a foot ulcer which confined him to his bed for several weeks. The wife, Adenike in a chat with Punch said the hospital is holding on to her late husband’s body until the unpaid medical bill of N600,000 is settled. Adenike who noted that Okorodudu was 64 years old at the time of his death said, “He is dead now but we still need to pay N600,000 to get his body out of the hospital.” The Secretary-General of Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, and the President of West Africa Boxing Union, Remi Aboderin expressed his condolences on hearing the news. He said, “It is true about his death. I just confirmed it after you called me and I reached out to some colleagues. “It is unfortunate that he died this way, and I am actually lost for words. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has said that Nigerians should not judge them based on the glitch experienced in the upload of the February 25 presidential election held across the country. The EU chief Observer, Barry Andrews, said public condience in INEC was severely damaged in the February 25 Felection due to the commission's operational failures and lack of transparency. Andrews said some corrective measures introduced in the March 18 governorship elections seemed to have had a positive effect but overall, trust was not restored and this led to civil societies to call for an independent audit of the entire process. Abiodun mourns death of Amotekun boss, Akinremi, commiserates with family

Governor Dapo Abiodun on Tuesday described the death of the State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, David Akinremi, as a great loss to the security architecture of the state. The governor expressed sadness over the untimely death of the commander. Akinremi, a retired Commissioner of Police, died on Monday, after an undisclosed ailment. He was appointed as the Commander of the newly established Amotekun Corpsin 2021 by Governor Abiodun. Prince Abiodun, in a condolence message from the Governor’s Office, described the late Akinremi as a gallant officer, who contributed in no small measure to the peace and security currently being witnessed in the state. Speaking on Sunday, June 11 ahead of Democracy Day which is marked June 12 of every year, Babangida said politicians have blatantly ignored the “beauty part” of June 12, 1993 election which was highly adjudged the freest and fairest election in Nigeria.
