Obafemi Awolowo Nursery and Primary School, Ikenne Remo, Ogun State, was filled with excitement on Tuesday, May 27th, 2025, as the children of Ikenne Local Government Area joyfully celebrated Children's Day in grand style.
The Executive Chairman of Ikenne Local Government, Hon. Jamiu Asimi, expressed his immense joy over this year’s Children’s Day celebration. He emphasized the vital roles that parents, guardians, instructors, and teachers played in the life of the children, identifying and nurturing the creativity embedded in children, who he described as the future of tomorrow. Hon. Asimi highlighted the global significance of Children’s Day as a time to honour the young minds destined to shape our world and bring joy to our communities.
He encouraged all children to exhibit good character, respect their elders, and focus diligently on their studies.
Furthermore, Hon. Asimi assured attendees that his administration, in collaboration with the State Government, remains committed to providing a conducive learning environment and prioritizing the welfare of both children and teachers.
He also extended his heartfelt appreciation to all teachers in Ikenne Local Government and Ogun State for their unwavering dedication to quality education, noting that education is the greatest legacy we can offer our children.
Mr. Olusesan Odumusi, Executive Secretary of Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Ikenne LG, reiterated that the value of education goes beyond examinations and classrooms. He stressed the importance of nurturing curiosity, building confidence, and helping every child discover their unique purpose in life. He called for a renewed commitment to protecting children’s rights, supporting their dreams, and investing in their futures.
Comrade Ola Babatunde, NLC Chairman, IKLG, expressed his profound gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the celebration. He urged the children to follow their dreams and avoid cultism and drug abuse.
Mr. Soniran, APSTON Chairman, appreciated everyone who played a part in making the 2025 Children's Day celebration a success and prayed for many more joyful celebrations in the future.
Mr. Sonuga Ayobami Jamiu, Supervisor for Education, Information, and Sports, also expressed his sincere gratitude to the government for providing such a valuable opportunity for children, describing it as a memorable experience.
In an interview with OGTV, Hon. Asimi commended the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for his developmental initiatives. He noted that the Children’s Day event offered both students and teachers an enjoyable and enriching experience.
The celebration featured vibrant activities, including a march past by voluntary organizations such as the Man ‘O’ War and Boys’ Brigade, with participation from all public primary schools in Ikenne Local Government. Ansarudeen Primary School, Irolu Remo, took first position, followed by Wesley Primary School, Iperu Remo who took second position and St. James Primary School, Iperu Remo came third. Cultural dances and choreography performances added color to the festivities.
