Ogun State CAN Inaugurates Youth Wing, Calls for Youth Revival
On Monday, August 19, 2024, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Ogun State officially inaugurated the Youth Wing of CAN (YOWICAN) during a significant event held at the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Onikoko, Abeokuta. The occasion was marked by the presence of several prominent religious leaders and members of the Christian community in the state.
The event was graced by the CAN Chairman of Ogun State, Rt. Revd. Adekunle Emmanuel Oluwaisi, Ph.D., alongside key figures such as the Vice Chairman, Revd. Fr. Otegbola; Secretary, Elder Apostle Jacob Adeaga; and the Director of Youth, Women, and Education, Revd. Gbolahan Larry Ajala. Additionally, the five Heads of Blocs in CAN, the chairperson and secretary of WOWICAN Ogun State, other executive members of CAN, the Oyo State YOWICAN Chairman, as well as ministers and congregants from across Ogun State, were in attendance.
In a sermon delivered by the Vice Chairman, Revd. Fr. Otegbola, a call to action was made to address the moral challenges facing the youth today. He emphasized the increasing issues of drug abuse and immoral behaviors such as "hookups" among the youth, urging the newly inaugurated leadership to lead a campaign aimed at reducing these vices.
YOWICAN Chairman, Pastor (Dr.) Seyifunmi Afolabi, in his address, expressed his gratitude to all attendees and made a bold promise to foster a spiritual revival among the youth in Ogun State over the next five years. His vision is to see a significant transformation in the moral and spiritual lives of young people within the state.
Concluding the event, CAN Chairman, Bishop Adekunle, bestowed his blessings upon the newly inaugurated YOWICAN executive, charging them to serve as ambassadors of Christ among the youth in Ogun State. He encouraged them to uphold Christian values and work diligently towards the spiritual growth and moral rejuvenation of the younger generation.
This inauguration marks a pivotal moment for the Christian youth in Ogun State, as the new leadership embarks on a mission to address pressing social issues and inspire a renewed sense of faith and discipline among the youth.
